But You Said You Love Me
Oct-2020
Rob and I were together for more than 5 years. The day after my 16-hour flight from Taiwan, he decided to drop the bomb on me. “But you said you love me, and you’re leaving me for Kansas?” Mf just couldn’t wait a couple more hours till I got more sleep in. Rob and I are completely different people; he’s one of the sweetest and kindest persons I know, whereas I am a total sassy, impatient little bitch who refused to accept the fact that he’s leaving me. Confused by his decision, I felt my whole world fall apart. But denial is a river in Egypt. I wanted to keep him around as long as I could, so I told him we should spend the last holiday together as a couple, then next year, we can both start fresh. The future me really wanted to bitch-slap myself for kicking off this misery myself. Here goes my countdown breakup.
Confused/Shattered are the key words for this drink which led me to create a sugar globe that I’mma smash and let the smoke out for a dramatic effect, ‘cause I def didn’t see it coming. Also, how can we not have popcorn when there’s drama? I wasn’t too sure about how to create something confusing, then comes an accidental find of the Umami bitters which resulted in a sweet, savory, Umami, and spicy drink which is hella confusing, imo.
Hope you enjoy this dramatic creation that I absolutely spent way too much time on, with countless balloon explosions in my apartment and trying to nail the homemade caramel butter popcorn. Does this drink remind you of getting dumped?
Recipe:
- Caramel butter popcorn washed bourbon 2oz
- Brown sugar syrup 1/2oz
- Umami bitters 2 drops
- Angastora bitters 2 drops
- Habanero tincture 2 drops
I am using @howtocookthat sugar globe recipe. I got a mixed quality of balloons that withstand different levels of heat so it was hard to predict if its going to work or not.
Caramel butter popcorn washed bourbon
- 1 cup (220g) brown sugar (I personally prefer brown sugar)
- 170g unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pour caramel butter over pop corn and mix then bake for ~25min check at around 15min to make sure its not too dry. Once cooled, put pop corn in a container then pour bourbon then let it sit over night. You should see a clear separation of the fat floating on top. Then the rest you know the drill.
